ALDN-246 My New Wife Affair With Father-in-law (English Subtitle)

As soon as Miho stepped out of the train station, the familiar smell of fresh earth and blooming flowers filled her nostrils. She had missed this scent since leaving her husband’s hometown. It brought back memories of summers spent here, running through fields and picking wildflowers with her mother-in-law. But today, there was something different about returning. Her mother-in-law would be celebrating her very first Obon festival at their family home.

But Miho wasn’t just excited to see her beloved mother-in-law again; she also couldn’t help but feel a flutter in her chest when she thought of seeing her husband’s father once more. He always seemed like such an enigmatic figure whenever they came out here, quieter than usual and looking somewhat worn down. Today though, Miho noticed something else about him – a tinge of sadness lingered behind those deep brown eyes.

For dinner on the first night, everyone gathered together under the moonlight, eating plates overflowing with rice cakes, sweet beans, and vegetables. As each person ate, they offered prayers and bowed towards the altar where their ancestors sat watching over them. It was a peaceful scene, bathed in flickering lantern light and punctuated by soft chants.

After the meal, Miho retired to bed exhausted, but her mind kept wandering back to her father-in-law’s melancholic gaze. Suddenly, her husband appeared beside her, whispering softly, “Would you like me to arrange some fireworks tonight?”

Miho nodded eagerly, sensing what might come next. That evening, her father-in-law stood alone among the guests, dressed in his deceased wife’s traditional summer kimono (yukata). His eyes glistened with unshed tears as he lit the fuses and watched as the bright sparks blazed across the sky. It was then that Miho understood how deeply her father-in-law still mourned his lost partner.

The spectacle ended abruptly as her husband pulled her away towards a secluded area of the garden. They lay down side by side, gazing up at the stars above. Miho could sense her husband’s unease as he hesitated before confessing, “I don’t know if you should hear this, but sometimes I worry your feelings for my dad are stronger than mine.”
