I thought things couldn’t get any worse, but today, of all days, is my birthday. My friends, who have been a constant source of support, had made plans to cheer me up and celebrate with me. But just when I thought I might be able to smile again, the typhoon hit our city directly.
The storm was so severe that the roads were flooded and it was impossible to step outside. My friends were forced to cancel the birthday celebrations, and I was left alone with my thoughts. Feeling completely defeated, I was about to give up when there was a knock on my door. To my surprise, it was my friend’s wife, Aki, standing outside, completely drenched from the heavy rain. She had braved the storm just to come and see me.
