They were members of the yakuza, the Japanese mafia, and they had a message for her. They told her that her fiancé, a teacher at her school, had been involved in some misdeeds and that he had to pay for his mistakes.
Eriko was devastated by the news. She had been in love with her teacher for as long as she could remember, and the thought of him being punished for something he had not done was unbearable. She was determined to do whatever it took to protect him, even if it meant risking her own safety.
